Delhi to Ghangaria: A Hiker's Plan
After travelling by road from Delhi to Govindghat to get this far, it's a relief to know that the next destination, Ghangaria is only a step (the distance is mostly uphill) away. From Govindghat, you can travel 4 km up the motorable road until you reach Pulna. Any number of hardy souls capture space in shared jeeps at Pulna in the early morning. Once you arrive in Pulna, there is a 10 km trekking trail that lies ahead of you (it should—as a rough guide—take you for 4-6 hours depending on your trail pace).
This trek is moderately steep with beautiful greenery and forests; the Pushpawati River flows along nearby. There are some small tea stalls along the trail where you can buy a tea, or some chips. If you're having a rough day (if the weather is bad), there are ponies and porters - porters to help carry your gear (otherwise you should probably hike the trail light), and ponies can help carry you as well (it's an option).
You will arrive in Ghangaria probably by late afternoon. Ghangaria has a significant number of budget lodges and GMVN guest houses, as well as camps. Rest day - make sure to get some rest and drink plenty of water to acclimatize, so that you are ready to embark on your awesome Valley of Flowers trek the next day.
