I’ve been thinking about building a pergola in my backyard, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the whole process. I want to go the DIY route to save money, but I’m not sure where to start. What are the biggest challenges when constructing a pergola yourself? Are there any must-know tips before getting started? I’m also debating what materials to use—wood, metal, or something else? Any advice would be appreciated!

Another thing to consider is anchoring—if you’re building on a deck versus directly on the ground, you’ll need different support systems. Also, pre-drilling holes before assembling can save you a lot of frustration. Looking forward to seeing how your project turns out!
