Difference between PTE score requirements for 189 and 190 visas in Australia

The primary difference between the PTE score requirements for Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa) and Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa) lies in the point allocation system. For both visas, a minimum PTE score for Australia of 50 in each section is required to qualify under the "Competent English" category. However, achieving higher scores can significantly boost your points.

For the 189 visa, which does not require state sponsorship, a PTE score of 65 or above in all bands can provide 10 points, while a score of 79 or above can add 20 points. This is critical because the 189 visa operates on an invitation-based system where only applicants with higher points are selected.

On the other hand, the 190 visa requires state or territory nomination, which typically prioritizes candidates with higher PTE scores. While the basic requirements are the same, achieving superior scores increases your chances of being nominated by a state.

Understanding the role of the PTE score for Australia in these visas is essential for optimizing your application strategy.

The PTE score requirement for the 189 visa is generally higher than the 190 visa, as the 189 is a points-tested independent visa. The 190 visa, sponsored by a state or territory, may accept slightly lower scores depending on occupation and state requirements. Always ensure your civil id check number matches your documents for accurate processing.
